Patient Master File

The Patients form will allow the user to add new patients or edit existing patients. Fill out the required fields marked with an asterisk. If you are able to fill out the non-required fields, that information could be useful in the future. Select the desired advanced buttons if needed to enter/associate information to the patient. Patient ID’s a are autogenerated by the LIS and cannot be changed.

📘 Instructions

  1. Follow the steps below to add a new patient.
  2. Click on Master Files
  3. Click on Patients
  4. When the form opens, fill out the required fields marked with an asterisk
  5. Click on the Add button to save


    💡 When editing/updating patient information do not forget to click on Update button to save.


    Patient form advanced buttons

    Patients - Billing Info Button
    • Select the bill type
    • Select the payer
    • Enter the insurance ID or policy number
    • If the patient is different from the insured, complete the insured information section
    Patients - Diagnosis Button
    Select all reported diagnoses. Note that this section is intended to store patient diagnoses for future orders, typically related to chronic diseases.
    Patients - Medications Button
    Select all medications the patient is currently taking. This information is typically used in toxicology testing to calculate RX Verification.
    Patients - Comments Button

    Add comments as needed.

    • Order entry alert: This comment will appear when the patient is selected in orders or requisitions. It's typically used to set reminders or alerts.
    • Internal comments: Use this to post notes related to the patient. These notes are not printed on any report and are intended for laboratory staff use only.
    • Requisition comments: These comments will print on every requisition generated for this patient. For example, "Do not draw patient's blood from left arm."
    • Invoice comments: will print on all patient invoices
    • Statement comments: will print on patient statements
    • Other comments: use as needed
    Patients - Responsible Party Button
    Click the contact button to select from available contacts in the LIS, or click the attorneys button if the responsible party is an attorney. Patient invoices will be addressed to the responsible party instead of the patient.

     More Options menu

    1. Account Merge: Users sometimes enter a patient in the LIS who already exists. This usually happens when they skip the patient search and create a new patient instead. When you detect a duplicate patient, you can use the patient account merge tool to eliminate it while keeping all records—such as results, requisitions, and billing transactions—associated with the remaining patient account.
    2. Cases: Add or remove cases associated to the patient
    3. Documents: Add or remove documents associated to the patient.
