Default TAT Settings

Default TAT - set system‑wide turnaround times

Use the Default TAT form to define the lab’s baseline turnaround times for Routine and STAT testing. These defaults apply system‑wide to all tests unless a specific test has its own TAT set in the Test Master (test‑level overrides).

What this controls

  • Routine TAT: default expected time to result for non‑STAT orders.
  • STAT TAT: default expected time to result for STAT orders.
  • Used by TAT monitoring (e.g., TAT Violation notifications and TAT History).

📘 How to set defaults

  1. Open Settings → Default TAT.
  2. Enter Routine TAT (dd:hh:mm).
  3. Enter STAT TAT (dd:hh:mm).
  4. Click Save.

Notes and best practices

  • Keep defaults realistic for your broadest workload; fine‑tune exceptions in the Test Master.
  • Review defaults after major workflow or instrument changes.
  • For critical assays or send‑outs, set explicit test‑level TATs rather than relying on the global defaults.

Troubleshooting

  • A test shows the “wrong” TAT: check if the Test Master has an override.
  • Too many TAT violations: reassess defaults, confirm correct basis (Ordered/Collected/Received), and validate timestamps are being captured consistently.
