Use Standing Orders to schedule tests at defined intervals (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly, annually) so recurring work is created automatically, reducing manual entry and preventing missed labs.
Compliance reminder: Standing orders must be authorized by a licensed provider. Maintain proper documentation (signed order, medical necessity/diagnoses, prior authorization or ABN when required) to meet regulatory and payer requirements.
Best practices:
What happens next
By default, the LIS pools all tests scheduled for the same date/time onto a single requisition. When workflow or specimen logistics require it, place selected tests on a separate requisition.
Example: If a patient has a lipid panel (blood) and a urinalysis (urine) at the same date and time, create a separate requisition for the urinalysis so nursing staff can collect the urine independently while the phlebotomist draws blood.
Tips:
By default, released results are distributed according to each clientâs configured Report Rules. When a client asks you to send an extra copy to a different destination just this once, use an adâhoc âAdditional Copyâ instead of creating a new rule.
