Pathology - Review and Release
Pathology - Review and Release (two grid read‑only verification)
Use the Pathology Review and Release form to verify compiled pathology reports and finalize distribution. This screen is read‑only for report content and no edits can be made here. If changes are needed, click Edit Results to open Pathology Result Entry, make updates, Save, and return to Review and Release.
What you can do
Release scope options:
- Release All (all eligible tests across loaded orders)
- Release Selected Orders
- Release Selected Tests within an order
- Preview report without distributing (for final visual QA)
- Review result history
- Mark as Reviewed (verification only; does not distribute)
- Edit Results to make changes in Result Entry, then return to release
Note: Report Rules do not trigger on Preview. Clients and portals will see results only after Release.
Screen layout
Orders grid (top)
- Displays the orders selected for release.
Tests grid (bottom)
- Shows pathology tests ready to be released for the order highlighted in the top grid (e.g., Surgical Pathology, Cytology, IHC panel).
- Indicates status (Pending Release/Preliminary/Final), and any holds.
Typical workflow
- Load your worklist (filters by date, client/site, status = Pending Release) and select orders in the top grid.
Review tests in the bottom grid:
- Confirm final content (diagnosis, observations, synoptic elements), signatures, and required comments.
- Use Preview to view the compiled report.
- If edits are needed, click Edit Results to open Result Entry, apply changes, Save, and return.
Choose your release scope:
- Release Selected Tests, Release Selected Orders, or Release All.
- Confirm prompts (e.g., required documentation).
- Verify delivery in distribution logs (fax/secure email/portal/HL7) and requeue failures if needed.
Best practices
- Use Preview to confirm pagination, image placement, and observation order before releasing.
- Prefer partial release when some components are still pending or under review.
- Use Mark as Reviewed when verification is complete but release is deferred (e.g., awaiting cosignature).
- Ensure addenda/corrections are clearly labeled and routed per policy.
- Clear any “Hold Results” flags before attempting release.
Troubleshooting
- Can’t edit content: Expected—this form is read‑only. Use Edit Results to modify in Result Entry.
- Preview looks correct but client didn’t receive: Preview does not distribute; you must Release.
- Partial release not available: Ensure specific tests are selected; some profiles require full‑order release.
- Portal didn’t update: Confirm the release completed.
Releasing from this form ensures consistent, audited distribution of finalized pathology reports while preserving a clear separation between authoring and verification.
