Microbiology Review and Release
Microbiology - Review and Release (read‑only verification)
Use the Microbiology Review and Release form to verify results and finalize reporting. This screen is read‑only for results themselves, no values can be entered or changed here. If you need to make edits, click Edit Result to open the selected order/test in the Result Entry form, apply changes, save, and return to Review and Release.
Key points
- Read‑only: Results cannot be modified on this screen.
- Edit Result: Opens Result Entry for changes; save there before returning.
- Preview: Generate a report preview before releasing (for content/format review).
- Distribution: Report Rules do not trigger on Preview. Clients will not see results in the web portal until the results are released.
What you can do on this form
- Load a worklist by date range, client/site, status (Preliminary/Final ready to release), department/test.
- Review results, flags (H/L/Critical), reference ranges, comments, metadata (performed/resulted times).
- Open History to view prior results for context and delta assessment.
- Preview a report (single or batch) without distributing.
Release results:
- Release All eligible components in the order, or
- Release Selected tests for partial release (when some components remain pending).
- Mark as Reviewed (if enabled) to record verification without releasing.
Typical workflow
- Filter and load your worklist (e.g., Today, Microbiology, Pending Release).
Review each order/test:
- Verify values, auto‑flags, and critical indicators.
- Check comments, organism IDs, susceptibilities, and quantities.
- Use History for deltas/trends as needed.
Need a change?
- Click Edit Result to open the item in Result Entry.
- Make and save the change there. If the result was previously released, document a correction as required.
- Return to Review and Release.
- Optional: Click Preview to generate a non‑distributing report for final visual QA.
Release:
- Select tests (for partial release) or choose Release All.
- Confirm any prompts (critical call documentation).
- Verify delivery (post‑release) in delivery logs; requeue failed sends if needed.
Validation and safety checks
- Reference range and delta checks (read‑only indicators shown for review).
- Critical value workflow: Ensure call documentation/read‑back is recorded before release.
- Holds: Orders with Hold Results cannot be released until the hold is cleared.
Editing flow
- All edits occur in Result Entry (not here).
- Use Edit Result to jump directly to the correct order/test.
- Save changes and return to Review and Release to proceed.
- If correcting a previously released result, the system will generate a Corrected report upon release.
Report preview and distribution
Best practices
- Use filters (e.g., “Pending Micro—Today,” “STAT Only”) to focus review.
- Prefer partial release for time‑sensitive components while others incubate.
- Confirm organism‑antibiotic coherence (panel appropriate to organism) before release.
- Ensure comments are concise, standardized, and placed in the correct section.
- For “Still Pending” scenarios (e.g., re‑incubation), clearly indicate on the final tab in Result Entry before releasing.
Troubleshooting
- Release button disabled: Check permissions, order holds, or incomplete required fields.
- Can’t edit a value here: This is expected; use Edit Result to modify in Result Entry.
- Preview looks correct but client didn’t receive: Preview doesn’t distribute—use Release and then check delivery logs.
- Partial release option missing: Ensure specific tests are selected; some profiles may require full‑order release.
- Portal didn’t update: Confirm status is Final/Corrected (not Preliminary) and that distribution completed successfully.
