Instrument Master File — Purpose and mapping

The Instrument Master File stores details for analyzers and external systems interfaced with the LIS. It also manages the mapping between LIS tests and instrument assays using LIS codes, instrument codes, or positional mapping.

  • Test mapping:
    • Code-based mapping: link LIS test codes to instrument test codes.
    • Positional mapping: for flat files (e.g., CSV), map tests by result position (e.g., Test A → Column 1, Test B → Column 2).
  • Configuration lifecycle: Initial setups are typically created by OCL LIS technical support. Authorized users can add/remove instruments and update mappings to keep configurations current.
